describe the imageYou’ve decided your child needs a tutor. But now what? Honestly, there are so many tutors out there.

How can you be sure the one you choose is going to be perfect for your child? Luckily, we’re going to give you a heads up.

Tutor Traits

Whether you look for a tutor on your own, or hire someone from a tutoring service in Chicago, there are certain traits you want in a tutor.

  • Experience

Of course you want the person tutoring your child to have experience. Beyond that, you want to find someone who has experience in the specific subjects your child needs the most help in.

  • Reliability

Since the tutor will be responsible for helping your child excel, you need to know you can rely on him or her to show up on time, and be available for the whole scheduled time.

  • Patience

Helping someone learn, especially when that person is already struggling, takes patience. You don’t want a tutor who will get easily frustrated and start scolding your child.

  • Honesty

Brutal honesty isn’t good from a tutor, but gentle constructive honesty is.

  • Admirable Personality & Style

This shouldn’t matter, but let’s be honest, it does. The personality and style of your tutor makes a difference. This is the person who will be working with your child, probably influencing him or her. I don’t know about you, but I want someone who will set a good example.

Tutoring Service

Since we mentioned going through a tutoring service, there are traits to look for in those too.

  • A History Of Success

Look for a service that has a good track record. Look for reviews on their website. Ask for references and talk to other parents who have used the tutoring service to ensure you are making the right choice for your child.

  • Customized Tutoring

Whether your child learns best with individual attention or in a tutoring center, the service you choose should fit your child’s needs.

  • Qualified Tutors

Anyone with general knowledge in a subject can call themselves a tutor. But you want someone with the right credentials. Choose a tutoring service that has a rigorous selection process and checks out their tutors’ qualifications.

When looking for a tutor in Chicago for your child, there are always many to choose from. Start by knowing what to look for in a great tutor or tutoring service and make the best decision you can from there.
